Review about Nokia Lumia 1020

I purchased it when it was not really available in market (only online booking was available). When my friends asked me about the price and I told them, their reaction came with a comment like "Had you bought a bike of this price, entire society would have seen and appraised".... Ha ha.

Little hurting, but when the features are seen, and when the use is experienced, this is awesome..... Truly Awesome…!!!

I had fed-up with Andriod phones for their POOR battery backups and Nokia Lumia 1020 is GREAT on Battery Performance. I charged it to 80% on Friday, when I first open it and then I started using it in exploring manner.

I connected to internet, listen to and also downloaded songs from Nokia Live Music, Configured my 09 email accounts, connected two Facebook accounts, used camera, text chatted for more than 05 hrs., made calls for many minutes, replied my e-mails, and bla bla bla…… in short, I used it rigorously and that’s to till Monday Evening when it got switched off for exhausted Battery…. So this was a test for its battery in which in in fact performed GREAT and full marks for this.

Apart from my Nokia Lumia 1020, no other Smartphone can take the quality, detailed, spotless photos and clear HD videos on a cloudy day. This world class photography is the result of the 41-megapixel camera, PureView technology, Optical Image Stabilization, and revolutionary zoom. I can now explore the world of photography and take stunning pictures using my handset. I do not need a DSLR camera any more as my mobile enables me to take DSLR-quality photographs without any effort. Using Nokia Rich Recording feature in my handset, I can also capture distortion free sound along with my videos even in a loud place. In a word, my Nokia Lumia 1020 meets all my photography needs.

Using some very efficient apps, I can now zoom in close and see the details in my shots. I can also reframe my photos using framing grids and create entirely new images. I can even zoom in my videos up to 6 times without losing quality. The apps also lets me change shutter speed, focus, and white balance in real time. This is not the end. Using these overwhelming applications, I can crop, rotate, edit, enhance self portrait, and animate my photos. After I finish editing and add all the finishing touches to my photos, I can publish them in my Twitter and Facebook pages instantly. This is a very nice way to share my captured moments with my family and friends.

Like other Lumia phones, my Nokia Lumia 1020 also has a very high speed dual core processor – it is world famous Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4. Because of this dependable processor I can finish all the tasks using my handset without any headache.

As my phone is a windows based phone, it runs on Windows Phone 8 operating system. The advantage of this operating system is, MS Office and Outlook come as free apps with it. Because of these free apps, I can now work and travel simultaneously. It lets me finish my work even when I am not in the office, and I need not worry for saving my data as the handset offers me 7GB online storage space in SkyDrive. I can now save my work without using any hard drive.

Apart from mind blowing apps, my Nokia Lumia 1020 also comes with some fantastic accessories. Some of them are - Nokia Wireless charging plate, an efficient USB charger, Nokia Wireless charging car holder, Camera Grip for confident shots, and Nokia Purity Pro Wireless Stereo headset.

As I love exploring the city I am living in, my Nokia Lumia 1020 comes very handy for navigational assistance. It provides me voice based navigational assistance at every turn using HERE Map and HERE Drive+ software. If I need, I can also download the map for better understanding.

The battery life of this handset is very good and gives me long talking and browsing time. As this handset is also armed with Bluetooth technology, sharing and receiving data is very easy now. It also has high speed Internet and Wi-Fi connectivity. Using this I can check my emails from all the accounts and message my friends as well. I can also chat with my friends anytime I want to.

Downloading on 2G is also impressive, and there were no breaks in the songs played on Nokia-Music Store.

The Animated Home is full of live information, quick links and handy to use.

Only miss from Android phone is a single panel for all updates, but this problem is solved in alternate ways in Windows interface.

I an overall, I would recommend the product, this in fact worth to buy for this prices, at least for me.

you can buy this at Flipkart

Awesome phone at great price-Lenovo K900

Build:

The metallic look of the phone looks good and solid, but the bezel on the phone makes it look longish. However the metallic back did get scratches even from car plastics when kept at the edge. Didnt like that on a new phone. Ordering a flip case for that because the phone is slippery too. The buttons feel pretty solid, lot better than the nexus one and Note i have previously owned. The phone looks ok/good but i wouldnt say it matches or competes with HTC one/Blackberry latest say (though they are smaller and not comparable). Quality of accessories supplied is also way better than the ones that came with Samsung Note IMHO.

Display:

I was having doubts about display quality before purchasing and after switching from Note 1. But this one is an awesome display. Bright, crisp and responsive. IMHO this one did a better job in outside sunlight visibility than the Note 1. Also compared it with amoled display of Toshiba excite tablet (which i believe was very good) and K900 was way brighter. Regarding crispness and resolution, this one looks great althought i never could find issues with lower resolution phones too. 5 stars for the display. Fonts for some of the things like The H at the top in the notification bar could have been handled better.

Power:

Am not much into gaming. But the phone in general is very responsive in browsing, maps, general dialling etc. Reason for me selling the Note 1 was partly attributed to the very long time it used to take for opening the contacts. This one feels way more responsive in those tasks. Although the stock launcher i felt was a bit sluggish in some of the effects like cube rotate, it was good and responsive in others and so am using one of those. I tried Nova Launcher and that worked just great. However i switched back to the stock launcher because of some of the nice effects in the app tray etc. Other applications like email, Flipboard etc that i use more often work just great. Refreshes and Flipboard stories were opening faster than on my Note. The phone does get warm however after heavier long duration usage, but that happened on Note 1 too.

Camera:

This one is a good camera with plenty of settings. The pictures i took in room in day light were pretty clear. Liked the panaroma mode in the camera. Havent used the camera very extensively as of now but after some usage i am positive about the companies claims about the camera. The front camera also gives a wider angle compared to my tablet as claimed. Lenovo has also customized the Gallery software which was to my liking.

Voice quality:

Call quality is ok and audible, but not on the louder side i would say. I havent faced problems till now, but i liked the one on Note better. The ringtone loudness however is louder/better than Note.

Software:

The phone comes with most of the required software along with Playstore (you dont need to root in the Indian model) and a few good widgets. Contrary to what i have read on a lot of reviews, I liked lot of customizations that Lenovo has done. App tray, launcher, time widget, icon customizations, Messaging customizations all felt good. Dialer was good, but look and feel of the dialer needs improvement. The ability to record conversations as you are talking and dialing is great. The launcher looks good after i changed the wallpaper and put a Galaxy S4 optimized wallpaper from playstore. But the Novo launcher definitely is much faster than the Lenovo default and was also much more responsive than the Samsung touchwiz in Note. I didnt like the icons and color scheme of the dialer and settings screen and also missed the swipe to call gesture of Note in the dialer. Chrome which comes installed by default along with Android browser worked great and i believe i would be using it as the default.

Note: Rooted this phone. It was so damn easy Just download the ROM to sdfuse folder in the phone and sdupdate. Installed the font to read Punjabi.

Battery life:

Battery life in the 4 days of my usage felt good. They have done lot of optimizations i believe to enhance battery. This is no scientific statement, but based on observations of pending battery at various times of the day, i believe it would have outlasted the Note 1. Battery app is very good. Liked the usage representation by hardware and software.
Note: After 3 weeks of usage, i am pretty happy. On certain days with my avg usage this is lasting a full day night and then next day till 6 pm.

At the end, its the price which makes it a very attractive buy. I did not consider Note 2 because i didnt like its display over Note 1 that i was owning. Also in my small check at the store, i felt a perceivable delay in opening contacts like the Note 1. Samsung goodies like stylus and associated software along with tweaks like multiple windows in the same frame are things i never used in Note 1, so didnt think i would ever need them too.
